I offer workshops for students and youth,  in small groups (4 to 6 students), medium groups (6-12 students), and large groups (up to 30 students). These workshops can be held in a studio or home, in an art centre, or in a classroom.

Private Mentorship Lessons

With almost every class that finishes, I have at least one student or parent who asks me about when I will teach the next level, or whether I ever do private tutoring lesson.
So, here is my answer for all those requests…

Private Mentorship Lessons are held at your tri cities home, or at a location booked by you in advance.  Supplies must be purchased prior to each session, and a supply list will be provided in advance.

Topics for Private Mentorship are varied, however here are a few examples: photography, drawing, painting, print making, installation art, custom framing, putting together an art proposal for a show or port folio.

Prior to accepting a Private Mentorship Student, an informal interview will be held to ensure that I am the right match for the student. Next, a  written contract will be created to establish a plan of intent for the lesson(s), establish a payment schedule and I can provide copies
of letters of reference, educational certificates,  curriculum vitae, and criminal records check for parents' reference.

I charge an hourly rate of $30 per hour, and will provide discounted rate when booked for 4 or more hours with the same student. Please contact me for further details.

Because I thoroughly enjoy art history, I start every workshop out with a digital slide presentation to introduce students to the work of other artists, and to get a general discussion going on famous artists from the past. This is a unique part of my workshops, and students enjoy starting workshops off this way.

The list of workshops below are popular within the art centres, galleries, and schools that I regularly teach at.

This course will introduce students to the art of digital photography: students will be shown basic camera functions, as well as a few fun photography tricks to create interesting and unique images.  With an emphasis on taking lots of photos, students will pick their favorite one and take home their own custom printed photo mug.

*This workshop lasts from 8 hours to 16 hours. It is suitable for small or medium groups. Students are required to bring their own digital camera, extra batteries and a USB cord to every session. Selected images will be posted in the online STUDENT GALLERY.

In this course students will be introduced to POP ART – it’s history, its artists, it’s influences, and ultimately its unique outlook on the process of art making.

On the first week, students will have fun creating a large double layer self portrait using a variety of material from oil & chalk pastel, crayon, and other drawing mediums. Students should bring along at least one self portrait photo to work from.

On the second week, students will create a series of painted-photo self-portraits - a very popular project that yeilds amazing work every time! In this second workshop students will paint with acrylic paint, and also use oil pastel.

At the end of this two session workshop students will have one large double layer self portrait, as well as up to 4 medium sized pop art self portraits that can be framed and displayed in your favorite room. Plus students will come away with a greater understanding of this small yet wildly POPular segment of art history.

*This workshop runs over two separate days (5 hours total). This workshop is suitable for small to medium groups. Completed artwork will be posted in the online STUDENT GALLERY.

Students will create a series of painted-photo self-portraits. At the end of this session students will have 2 vibrant pop art self portraits that can be framed or displayed in your favorite room of the house, and they’ll come away with a greater understanding of this small yet wildly POPular segment of art history.

*This workshop lasts 2 hours. It is suitable for any group size.                       IMPORTANT NOTE: I require a short time to take photos of each student participating in this workshop at least one week before the actual session date (this takes me 20 min).  Completed artwork will be posted in the online STUDENT GALLERY

*This workshop spans over 4 separate days, and can run from 2 to 4 hours per day.      Students will enjoy learning about some of the popular movements in art history (it's artist's, it's themes, and materials used) and will then do a work of art based on each art movement. Finished work ranges from drawing to painting to mixed media.

Themes include:                                                                                                          Post-Impressionism (Cezanne, Rousseau, Gauguin, Van Gogh)                                Expressionism (Klimt, Munch, Kandinsky, Marc)                                                          Surrealism (Ernst, Miro, Tanguy, Dali, Magritte)                                                          Abstraction (de Kooning, Pollock, Rothco, Newman)

This workshop is suitable for any sized group. Completed artwork will be posted in the online STUDENT GALLERY.

This is a "catch all" workshop...there are several artists that are popular figures in art history that simply don't get discussed in my other workshops for one reason or another. In this workshop students can be introduced to a particular artist and their work, their thoughts and themes (as much as I can research on my own), then students will create a project based on that artists' working methods. Please contact me for further details or to discuss an artist you may have in mind.

This workshop is suitable for any sized group. Completed artwork will be posted in the online STUDENT GALLERY

In this workshop I show students how to enlarge a small drawing or computer graphic into a wall sized mural. Basic mural examples will be shown, and some key tips for making your design work on the larger scale.  This workshop can either be about getting a mural done, or it can be about simply enlarging a small drawing into larger image (onto paper, canvas or a wall).

*This workshop is suitable for any sized group that has a theme, a wall to work on, and the gusto to get the project done! Completed 'murals' will be photographed and posted in the online STUDENT GALLERY.

IMPORTANT NOTE: for actual wall murals, the materials must be provided by the organizer. Including paint, floor coverage for entire area, lighting, and painting equipment (brushes, rollers, tape, etc).

With every kids' session that is completed, I have at least one parent who wishes I could offer the workshop for adults or at a home party or small art studio. The fact is I CAN...   I simply haven't promoted this service for adults, but I have the gear, I have a lot of demonstration experiences (not all listed here) and I am open to catering to a theme or idea you may have in mind. Contact me for further details about adult workshops & demos and we can work something out. If you don't have a home location suitable to host an event, there are many local art centres willing to rent out a room for a few hours.
